Studies in India have been more conceptual in nature and paucity of empirical evidence on assessing the psychological effects and response to COVID-19 has been observed. A rapid increase in the COVID cases and its debilitating impact on the psychological health necessitates an empirical investigation to explore the prevalence and determinants of psychological distress. Mental health professionals like psychologists, psychiatrists, psychiatric nurses and psychiatric social workers help the patients and larger community understand the potential impact of the virus and help patients, societies and families deal with the potential threat on physical and mental health. Keywords
